Integrated Communication Programs I-Kit

Step 1:  Form a Coordination Group

SBCC programs covering a number of health issues require exceptional coordination. As discussed earlier, government Ministries of Health as well as donors usually organize programs by health areas such as:

  • Reproductive health
  • Child health
  • Nutrition
  • HIV/AIDS

  • Malaria
  • TB
  • Water and sanitation
  • Others

As early as possible, you will need to introduce stakeholders from each health area to your program and solicit their involvement and support. Stakeholders include government, non-governmental, private commercial sector and communication experts.

Often the best way to get them on board is to involve a core group of stakeholders in researching and designing the campaign, and a coordination mechanism.

Most often, SBCC coordination groups are chaired by the Ministry of Health and meet regularly to provide technical guidance, monitor campaign implementation and guide future directions.
